Health help all year round from SHADE
Worried about how to access health information during the school holidays? In Banbury or Oxford the school nurses are available out of term at special drop in health sessions called SHADE.
These run weekly throughout the summer and other holidays, at these times and places:
You don't have to be local to the area to attend the sessions, and you don't have to be a member of the youth club. Just drop in and have your health worries answered.
SHADE school nurse helpline
If you can't make it to the sessions, you can still get information and advice. Just call or text to get information from your local school health nurses. You don't need to be local to the area to use the helpline, just phone the one nearest to you.
- Banbury 07760 990582
- Oxford 07760 990584
Phone lines are open 9am-5pm Monday-Friday.
School Holiday Advice Drop-in for Every young person
The posters and cards promoting the health sessions were designed by young people for young people. A group in Banbury came up with the name, and the design for the posters and cards which promote the service. SHADE stands for School Holiday Advice Drop-in for Every young person. You can ask about all sorts of things:
- General health advice
- Weight and fitness
- Contraception and Sexual Health
- Bullying and mental health
Confidential and safe
Remember, whatever you talk about with your School Health nurses is confidential*, so your health worries stay private. The young people's centres in Banbury and Oxford are easy to get to, but if you don't feel up to making the trip, don't worry, you can just call the SHADE health line 9am-5pm Monday-Friday:
- Call or text SHADE Banbury on 07760 990582 9am-5pm Monday-Friday
- Call or text SHADE Oxford on 07760 990584 9am-5pm Monday-Friday
* Sometimes they may need to talk to someone else, e.g. if you are in danger, but this doesn't happen very often, and they will always talk to you before talking to anyone else.
